Deputy President and Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), the Hon. David Mabuza will lead the official commemoration of World AIDS Day on Tuesday, 01 December at Itireleng Community Health Centre in Dobsoville, Soweto.
This year’s commemoration will be undertaken under the local theme, ‘We’re in this together, Cheka Impilo’, an earnest call to every single South African to make responsible health choices. The theme is centred around the three-year Cheka Impilo National Wellness Campaign which is in its final year. The year 2020 is also the deadline year for the 90-90-90 targets set by UNAIDS for member states to eliminate HIV as a public health threat, as well as to push towards ending AIDS by the year 2030. The Deputy President will provide an update on the country’s progress against these targets and share preliminary findings on the impact of COVID-19 on HIV and TB services.
Honourable Mabuza will lead the commemoration alongside the SANAC Co-Chairperson, Ms. Steve Letsike, the Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize and Gauteng Premier, Mr. David Makhura.
