RE: APPOINTMENT OF MS. COCEKA NOGODUKA AS ACTING CEO OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL (SANAC)
As the civil society collective in SANAC under the banner of the SANAC CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM (CSF), representing 18 sectors that represent over 6000 not-for-profit organisations operating at national, provincial, district and local levels, we welcome the appointment of Ms. Coceka Nogoduka as the Acting CEO of SANAC. She is fair, she is firm, she understands the multi-sector approach that is required in the AIDS, TB, STI and now COVID-19 response. In her role as the Executive Manager for the National Strategic Plan, she has demonstrated ability and capacity to provide management that brings all role players on board.
The success of SANAC depends on management and governance by the trust that is able to work with all role players, extracting value and allowing the role players their space to contribute, to be critical when challenges occur so that progress is achieved. The role players at SANAC are government, business and civil society which includes the labour sector. None of these role players is more important than the other – in their space of operation, when the role players work together, SANAC is a natural beneficiary because you then have an orchestra that plays memorable songs of ending HIV and TB.
HIV and TB affect all South Africans, whether they are positive or negative. People infected come from the entirety of society and are represented across all civil society sectors at SANAC. This is important for Nogoduka to understand and integrate in how she will manage the affairs of SANAC together with her management team. “Ensuring multi-sectoral partnerships across all the 18 sectors is what we expect Ms. Nogoduka to focus on to ensure that in her time as an Acting CEO, greater progress is achieved “says Steve Letsike, SANAC CSF Chairperson and SANAC Co-Chairperson.
She steered the ship that gave us the Mid-Term Review of the NSP, the smoothest in the history of SANAC. This was as a result of consultative ethos she uses in engaging with role players and we are looking for more of the same going forward.
“Ms. Nogoduka can count on us as SANAC CSF. Our positions on what needs to be done as articulated in our CSF Strategy have not changed. We look forward to joining hands with her as the 18 sectors in the mammoth task ahead” concludes Letsike.
